- The Directorate of Criminal Investigation has announced a cash reward for anyone who provides information on the whereabouts of Collin Jumaisi
- Jumaisi, the main suspect in Mukuru's murder, escaped from the police with 12 other suspects from Eritrea
- It is said that Jumaisi and his colleagues bribed the police officers on duty and left through the main gate of the police station
The main suspect in the Kware murder in Mukuru kwa Njenga slum escaped from Gigiri Police Station along with 12 other Eritrean suspects on Tuesday, August 20.
According to a police report obtained by TUKO.co.ke, the 12 Eritreans were detained at the facility for illegal immigration.
How does the DCI respond to Jumaisi's escape?
The Office of the Director of Criminal Investigation (DCI) published an advertisement in a local daily newspaper, asking the public to help find Jumaisi.
The organization has also offered a cash reward to anyone who has information about the whereabouts of the main suspect in Mukuru's murder.
“A large cash reward will be given to anyone with reliable information that will enable the arrest of the suspect. The suspect is from Shiru sub-location, Shaviringa area, Hamisi sub-county in the county of Vihiga,” statement of DCI it read in part.
However, the DCI has not disclosed the exact amount of the reward for information on Jumaisi's whereabouts, describing it as “significant.”
Anyone with information about a suspect's whereabouts can report it confidentially by calling the police emergency numbers 911, 999, or 112, or by visiting the nearest police station.
How did Jumaisi escape?
This comes following reports that Jumaisi and his associates walked out of the Gigiri Police Station unimpeded.
A witness at the station claims to have seen Jumaisi leaving through the main door while the two police officers he mentioned were there.

The witness saw all the suspects, including Jumaisi, in the corridor outside their cells. The door of Jumaisi's cell was open, and he was no longer chained.
The witness reported seeing one of the Eritreans giving money to the two officers, who said they were heading to the canteen.
The witness noted that one officer later appeared drunk, a claim supported by the insiders of the station.
What else do we need to know about Jumaisi's case?
- Earlier Jumaisi had confessed to killing 42 women including his wife and throwing their bodies in the Kware pit in Mukuru kwa Njenga.
- The 33-year-old later claimed he was tortured until he confessed to the murder and asked the court through his lawyer to allow him to receive treatment.
- Jumaisi's sister said her brother had a different name before it was changed to Collins, but she did not clarify the reason.
