Migori: Panic erupts in Isebania after a man allegedly suffered from smallpox

  • Residents of Isebania have asked the Migori county government to strengthen awareness about Mpox prevention
  • The calls have been made after the Mpox case was reported in the area and left the locals living in fear
  • However, Migori County Chief Health Officer Marbel Chanzu assured that there is no cause for alarm as they are adequately prepared

The residents have asked the Migori county government to mobilize them to prevent the spread of the Mpox virus.

“Many people cross the border every day, and we interact with them, and this puts us at risk,” Chacha Muitebe, a resident, told TUKO.co.ke.

He also mentioned that the county government should set guidelines to help prevent further spread of the virus.

The residents also asked the government to be ready for the control and prevention of the virus in the event of an outbreak.

“We want the government to be fully prepared with doctors and equipment that will help deal with the situation if there is any outbreak,” Silas Mwikali added.

However, the Migori county government assured that they have already put in place strategies to help eradicate the spread of the virus, including conducting investigations in boarding areas.

“We have a suspected case of monkey disease and we have sent our teams and they are already in the field. There is no reason to panic,” Chief Health Officer of Migori county Marbel Chanzu noted.

Chanzu also mentioned that the county has enough facilities and skilled doctors who can handle any cases.

He assured the residents that there is no reason to panic yet and that they should keep their guard up.

Migori County borders Tanzania through Isebania and Mihuru bay.

Are there Mpox patients in Kenya?

Previously, TUKO.co.ke reported that the Minister of the Ministry of Health Deborah Barasa had issued a statement to confirm that there is no case of Mpox in the country.

In a statement, Barasa announced that the first case of the disease, identified at the Border Center of Taita Tavetait had completely recovered.

He further explained that Kenya has reported only one case of Mpox, involving a person who traveled from Kampala, Uganda, to Mombasathen Rwanda via Tanzania via Taita Taveta, and now he has recovered.
