Nairobi – The High Court in Nairobi has halted the impeachment of the controversial Meru governor Kawira Mwangaza.
Mwangaza moved to the High Court to challenge the decision of the Senate session which voted late on Tuesday, August 20 to approve his removal from office.
Judge Luck Mwamuye suspended the Senate resolution approving the removal of Mwangaza until the case is heard and decided.
“Pending the hearing and determination of the application dated 21/08/2024, a protective order is issued to prevent the continuation or implementation of the Senate Resolution to remove the County Governor of MeruHon. Kawira Mwangaza,” said part of Mwamuye's decision.

The judge further prevented Senate Speaker Amason Kingi from announcing the removal of Mwangaza in the government gazette.
The case is scheduled to be mentioned on September 17.
