The Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) did not endorse the four members who were nominated to Cabinet Wednesday by President William Ruto.
This according to the ODM Secretary General Edwin Sifuna who was speaking Wednesday morning at Citizen Television breakfast meeting.
President Ruto nominated Member of Parliament and ODM Chair John Mbadi as new CS nominee for Treasury, former Mombasa Governor Hassan Joho for Mining, ODM Deputy Party leader Wycliffe Oparanya for Cooperatives while Opiyo Wandayi was nominated as CS nominee for Energy Ministry.
The four were among the 10 additional nominees who the President Wednesday afternoon during the State of the Nation address at State House, Nairobi.
He clarified that ODM Party has not become part of the government noting that the President has the authority to nominate anyone to his Cabinet.
“ODM did not endorse Mbadi, Joho, Oparanya, and Wandayi, but we knew those negotiating with President Ruto. These members were nominated in their capacity and without the party’s blessing.” Said Sifuna.
Following the nominations, Senator Sifuna said he expects the resignation of the four ODM members who were nominated to join Cabinet before they go for vetting.
He defended the ODM Chairperson Raila Odinga’s position saying he would not present male nominees only for CS nominee positions.
“There is no way Raila would present only male nominees for the CS position. It was not his decision.” Sifuna noted.
Adding that: “If ODM resolved to get into a government of national unity with UDA, I would say it. I don’t speak for myself but for the party. I am not afraid of Ruto and Raila. I am not a coward.”
