Athletics Kenya president Jack Tuwei has announced the postponement of the third edition of the Nairobi City Marathon.
The third edition of the Nairobi City Marathon has been postponed from Sunday, July 7 to September 8, 2024.
Athletics Kenya president announced that after widespread consultations, the organisers decided to push the event to later this year.
Tuwei noted that the athletes who wish to participate at the event should use the time to their advantage and sharpen their claws before the D-day.

“After widespread consultations, evaluation, and introspection, the Nairobi City Marathon, earlier scheduled for this Sunday, July 7, 2024, has been postponed to September 8, 2024,” Tuwei said.
“The interested participants, are encouraged to use this extended period to continue registering for the event and keep training for it.”

The Nairobi City Marathon is one of the events that offers the highest prize money in the world, with the winners and second-place finishers walking away with Ksh 2.25 million and 1.5 million respectively during last year’s edition of the event.

In the half marathon, the top three athletes walked away with KSh150,000, 80,000, and 50,000 respectively. The podium finishers in the 10km race pocketed KSh100,000, 60,000, and 40,000 respectively.
During last year’s edition of the race, the registration cost KSh1,500 while the half marathon cost KSh1,200. Registration for the 10km race cost KSh1,000 while the 6km race cost KSh500.
During last year’s edition of the race, Robert Kiplimo Kipkemboi and Naom Jebet conquered the full marathon in 2:07:38 and 2:24:33 respectively.
