Kenya Police midfielder Mohammed Bajaber is relishing the opportunity to play under Harambee Stars head coach Benni McCarthy.
The prolific midfielder is among five locally based players called up for Kenya’s upcoming 2026 World Cup qualifiers against Gambia and Gabon.
Since joining Kenya Police from Nairobi City Stars in the January transfer window, Bajaber has been in stellar form.

The team currently leads the league with 45 points, closely followed by Tusker (44 points) and Gor Mahia (42 points).

Expressing his eagerness to play under McCarthy, Bajaber cited the South African coach’s experience and tactical acumen as key motivators.
“It is an honour to represent the country in such big matches. Scoring would be special to me, but the most important thing is for the team to win. I hope my contribution will be impactful should I be called to duty,” Bajaber told Nation Sport before departing with the Harambee Stars squad to Ivory Coast ahead of the Gambia clash on Thursday.
“The coach has great ambitions, and it is good to learn from him, having been a top striker during his playing days,” he added.

Bajaber hopes that McCarthy’s instincts as a former striker will enhance his goal-scoring prowess.

Following the Gambia fixture, Harambee Stars will return to Nairobi to take on Gabon, aiming to strengthen their campaign for a place in the 2026 World Cup.
