The AFC Leopards vs Mara Sugar FKF Cup clash was abandoned following chaos witnessed at the Jomo Kenyatta stadium in Kisumu.
The Football Kenya Federation (FKF) has issued its ruling regarding the abandoned FKF Cup match between Mara Sugar FC and AFC Leopards SC.
The match, which took place on 8th March 2025 at the Jomo Kenyatta Stadium in Mamboleo, Kisumu, was abandoned in the 89th minute following an invasion of the pitch by AFC Leopards fans.

The supporters stormed the field in protest against the referee’s decision to rescind a penalty that had earlier been awarded to leopards.

The primary concern in the deliberations was to ensure fairness in competition while addressing the issue of fan misconduct, which has been a persistent challenge in Kenyan football.

In a statement seen by Pulse Sports, the Committee ruled that AFC Leopards SC was responsible for the abandonment of the match due to their fans’ unruly behavior.
In its ruling, the committee stated, “AFC Leopards SC fans, through their misconduct, caused the abandonment of the match after they invaded the field of play to protest against the referee’s decision to rescind an earlier awarded penalty.”
Consequently, the committee awarded the match to Mara Sugar FC, allowing them to progress to the next round of the competition.
Additionally, the committee issued a stern warning to AFC Leopards regarding the misconduct of their fans.
The club has been urged to put in place effective measures to curb cases of hooliganism and violence during their matches to prevent future incidents.
