The Ministry of Education, through the Higher Education Loans Board (HELB), has disbursed Ksh1.56 billion to support thousands of university students and Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) trainees across the country.
The disbursement, which took place on March 14, 2025, aims to ease the financial burden on students by covering tuition and upkeep costs.
In a press statement released by the Ministry of Education on Tuesday, March 18, 2025, Cabinet Secretary Juliu Migos confirmed that 31,263 TVET trainees and 33,863 university students benefited from the latest allocation.
Beneficiaries have been notified via HELB’s official communication channels and advised to check their online portals for confirmation.
The most recent disbursement brings the total amount released in the 2024/2025 financial year to Ksh32.7 billion.
According to the Ministry, these funds have supported 195,522 TVET trainees and 390,612 university students since the fiscal year began.
“The provision of this funding will ensure that student and trainee needs are met, enabling them to continue with their academic, training and research programmes without hindrance.,” Migos stated, reaffirming the government’s commitment to facilitating access to higher education.

The Kenyan government’s continued financial support comes amid growing concerns over the rising cost of education and calls for increased investment in higher learning institutions.
HELB remains a crucial lifeline for many students, especially from low-income backgrounds, who rely on these loans to sustain their studies.
As the country navigates economic challenges, education stakeholders have welcomed the timely disbursement, emphasizing the need for consistent and equitable funding to ensure that no student is left behind.
The Ministry of Education has assured the public that it will maintain its focus on supporting both university students and TVET trainees, underscoring the critical role of education in Kenya’s long-term development agenda.
“The Government will continue to provide financial support to university students and TVET trainees towards the attainment of their academic and training goals,” the Education CS added.
