Kitui Central Member of Parliament Makali Mulu has opined that Raila Odinga is a a man at pains over explaining his political decision of closing rank with the ruling administration of President William Ruto.
Speaking during a live TV interview on Monday, March 17, 2025, Mulu said the latest utterances of the Orange Democratic (ODM) Leader mirrors that of a politician in a precarious political situation as he seeks to justify his support of Ruto and his regime.
Odinga on on Friday, March 7, 2025, signed a joint government agreement. The deal allowed the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) to collaborate with Kenya Kwanza to deliver campaign pledges to the people.

Mulu says Raila’s recent move was a huge departure from his long-held political belief and has rendered the former Prime Minister at pains in explaining how he still espouse the very ethos and values Kenyans held him in high regard for.
Deserted your values
“He is trying to justify why he has joined Kenya Kwanza against the wishes of the majority of Kenyans. Because Kenyans are telling him, we have looked up to you as a leader over the years. We have analyzed and concluded you are a champion for the rights of the weak, disadvantaged, minority and marginalized but today you have deserted your key responsibility as a leader and gone to bed with people whom we think harassing us,” Mulu remarked.
Despite engaging in a series of tours across the country in consultation prior to making the move to join Ruto, Raila has endured mixed reactions from Kenyans, with many dismissing his new-found dalliance with Ruto. His heckling incident in Kisii last week highlighted one of the hostile reception of the aftermath his pro-government stand.

Mulu emphasized that the subsequent backlash left the ODM leader in regret over the deal and wishing he can opt out.
Getting Out
“I think whenever he sleeps he must be thinking about how can i get myself out of this mix. It is hard to do it and he is struggling wherever he goes. Even one of the new senator just elected told him we are concerned you are on wrong side on history, the MP said.
The legislature further offered his advice to Raila urging him to stand by his decision and brace for the consequences that will come with it.
“What he (Raila) needs to do is to acknowledge that we have accepted he is supporting Ruto and his government. He needs to remain there and stop making excuses,” he concluded.
