Leaders champion lifelong learning to empower students – Kenya News Agency

Students in Soin/Sigowet Sub-county in Kericho have been encouraged to cultivate a culture of continuous learning, curiosity, and innovation to remain competitive in an ever-evolving global landscape.

Speaking at a Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) Examination Thanksgiving ceremony held at Soliat Boys High School, Senate Majority Leader and Kericho County Senator, Aaron Cheruiyot, underscored the importance of a conducive learning environment in shaping academic success and future opportunities.

The Senator praised the community’s dedication to education, noting that last year’s impressive KCSE results were a clear return on investment in the sector by leaders and stakeholders.

“The remarkable performance of our students is proof that prioritising education yields great rewards. We must continue fostering an ecosystem that nurtures excellence,” he stated.

Later in the afternoon, Senator Cheruiyot visited Koisir Day Secondary School, where he incentivised students and encouraged them to embrace hard work, adaptability, and innovation. He urged learners to remain inquisitive and committed to their studies, emphasising that knowledge is a crucial tool in an increasingly competitive world.

“I urge you learners to remain inquisitive, innovative, and consistent in your efforts since the world is moving fast, and only those who keep learning and adapting will make a lasting impact,” Senator Cheruiyot said.

He further challenged students to seize opportunities, work toward their dreams, and aim to leave a mark on the global stage. According to him, discipline, resilience, and continuous learning are key to success in today’s knowledge-driven economy.

Beyond education, Senator Cheruiyot advised residents to respect their leaders and allow them to work effectively for the community and called for constructive criticism, urging locals to engage leaders positively and guide them on how they wish to be led.

“Leadership is about service, and we as leaders are here to serve you. However, it is also important for you, the citizens, to give leaders a chance to work while providing constructive feedback. Criticise in a positive way and guide us on how we can serve you better,” he advised.

Echoing these sentiments, Justice Kemei, the MP for Soin/Sigowet, emphasised the importance of education as a tool for empowerment and societal progress, advising students to remain focused on their studies and assuring them of continued support for academic initiatives in the constituency.

“Education remains the greatest equaliser, and we must invest in it to uplift our community and create opportunities for the next generation,” Mr. Kemei noted.

The event also saw Weldon Rogony, MCA for Sigowet Ward, and Albert Kipkoech, MCA for Soliat Ward, together with other leaders reaffirming their dedication to improving education through infrastructure development and scholarship programmes. They pledged to work together to ensure that schools in the region receive adequate resources.

Teachers and parents who attended the event expressed gratitude for the continued support extended to students even as those who excelled in their exams last year were recognised with suitcases and other gifts, an initiative aimed at motivating learners and strengthening collaboration between schools and local leadership.

As the ceremony came to a close, students were encouraged to set high goals, remain disciplined, and take advantage of every learning opportunity.

The KCSE Thanksgiving ceremony ended with a renewed commitment from all stakeholders to prioritise education as a key pillar for the growth and transformation of Soin/Sigowet.
