Ryan Ogam annoys Tusker after honouring Benni McCarthy’s Harambee Stars call-up

Tusker striker Ryan Ogam chose to honour Benni McCarthy’s Harambee Stars call-up but his club is not happy with him over a number of reasons.

Tusker FC have been left disappointed by star striker Ryan Ogam following his decision to honour a national team call-up.

Ogam is among players who joined Harambee Stars camp under new coach Benni McCarthy this week as Kenya prepare for the 2026 World Cup qualifiers against The Gambia and Gabon set to be played on March 20 and 23 respectively.

However, Tusker did not expect the striker to show up for two reasons. The first is that Ogam had been given time off after sustaining an injury, while the second is that the Brewers are among clubs who requested that their players delay camp as they have league matches this weekend.

Ogam has been absent since Tusker’s 1-1 draw against Shabana on February 26 and it was hoped that he would be back in time for Friday’s league match against Posta Rangers, which Charles Okere’s men won 2-1.

However, he opted to join national team training instead, a decision that has left his club disappointed.

“The club is not happy because he [Ogam] had been given time off to recover from the injury and he has not told the medical team if he is ready, only for him to join training with the national team,” a source from Tusker told Pulse Sports.

“They feel the player could be getting wrong advice which will only strain his relationship with Tusker. He still has one-and-half years on his contract and this could come back to bite him should he decided to leave at the end of the season.”

Ogam has been a revelation this season, taking the FKF Premier League by storm, as he is the leading scorer with 15 goals, helping his side push for the title.

He was the subject of transfer interest from Algerian club USM Alger in January but the move did not materialise and he is believed to be eyeing a transfer to Europe at the end of this season.
