Why Ingwe are not happy to play Shabana in Machakos

AFC Leopards have expressed reservations about playing Shabana FC in Machakos over a number of reasons.

AFC Leopards are lamenting the fact that they will have to host Shabana FC in Machakos during their FKF Premier League clash on Sunday.

Leopards will be the home team and have scheduled the match at the 10,000-seater Kenyatta Stadium as it was the best possible match venue to host Tore Bobe.

However, Ingwe are not impressed that they will have to play in Machakos as they feel the stadium will not be enough to host the large number of fans, denying them revenue, and they also feel it is a bit of a risk given the huge fanbase of both teams.

“We are hosting Shabana in Machakos but their fans alone will fill the stadium so where will our supporters sit?” Leopards secretary general Gilbert Andugu posed during an interview with Pulse Sports.

Newly appointed Harambee Stars coach Benni McCarthy took charge of his first training session ahead of crucial 2026 world cup qualifiers fixtures.

“We will be forced to limit the tickets and this will deny us massive revenue. This is also a high-risk match because the two clubs have a large support base.

“They should have given us Nyayo Stadium because we want to avoid things like stampede and also ensure we sell as many tickets as possible.”

Shabana and Leopards are among the three most supported clubs in the country, the other one being Gor Mahia, although this season, the Glamour Boys have seen a massive increase in the number of supporters as their team has improved on the pitch.

Shabana fans will likely paint Machakos red and white on Sunday given their team has recorded back-to-back big wins, having hammered Kakamega Homeboyz 4-1 in the league, before thrashing lower league opposition Plantech 5-1 in the FKF Cup Round of 32 last weekend.
