Interior Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen has announced new measures to restore peace and end skirmishes along the Narok-Kisii border.
In a statement on Friday, March 14, 2025, after holding joint peace meetings with residents and leaders from the region, Murkomen said the government is employing new measures to restore peace in the area.
This comes days after violence was reported in the area, leading to loss of lives.
“In an effort to find a lasting solution to the cross-border skirmishes along the Narok-Kisii border, today I visited the area and held joint peace meetings with residents and leaders from the region. I thanked the leaders and members of the two communities for working with our security teams to quickly restore peace and announced a raft of measures to further improve security,” Murkomen stated.
Among the new measures announced by the cabinet secretary include the operationalization of new administrative units, expansion of the police posts along the border and an increase of police officers.
Murkomen has also announced that the region will benefit from some of the 5,000 vehicles which are currently being procured to boost police work across the country.
The CS has also promised that the road along the border will also be upgraded to boost trade and improve access to security services.
“The security personnel are under instruction to apprehend those involved in crime and disband criminal gangs in the area. I also directed chiefs to move fast and rein in illicit drinks and drugs which are ruining the future of our children and worsening insecurity,” Murkomen stated.
“To further strengthen security in the grassroots, the Government has developed a policy to recognise and support village elders. The policy, now at the public participation stage, will boost community policing. To further foster cohesion between the two communities the leaders resolved to launch peace tournaments which have been proved to bring people together.”
Murkomen was accompanied by Education CS Julius Migos, MPs Silvanus Osoro (South Mugirango), Julius Sunkuli (Kilgoris), Obadiah Barongo (Bomachoge Borabu), Rebecca Tonkei (Narok County Woman Rep), Doris Donya ( Kisii County Woman Rep), Nominated Senators Gloria Orwoba and Esther Onyekuri.
Others present included Deputy Inspector General of Police Eliud Lagat, Rift Valley RC Abdi Hassan and his Nyanza counterpart Florence Mworoa as well as a host of MCAs.
