Thika Magistrate is caught in cash KSh 2m hidden in a controversial bag

  • He is accused of receiving bribes to determine cases under his authority; EACC officials raided the Atambo house and received KSh 2 million believed to be corruption money
  • Atambo, however, denied the allegations, saying the money that officials of the anti -corruption organization collected was for her husband

The Ethics and Anti -Corruption Commission (EACC) is investigating a judicial officer who is believed to be involved in corruption while performing his duties.

The chief judge of the court of Thika Stellah Atambo found himself on the radar of the anti -corruption commission after the complaint was allegedly submitted against him.

The EACC received reports that Atambo had called and allegedly received bribes when he decided on cases on his table.

The commission's investigators initiated an investigation that led to the raid on the judge's residence, in which money suspected of corruption was made.

According to the EACC, Wajambo received the money through the court clerk, Patrick Njeri Muriithi.

On Thursday, March 13, EACC officials received KSh 2 million stored in the Popular Handbag.

“The commission, after obtaining a document, conducted a search at the residence of the chief magistrate and clerk to obtain necessary documents and information to support the investigation. A total of KSh 2,070,000, which is suspected of corruption, were obtained within a computer handbag in the settlement, as well as various investigative documents,” The EACC information section was read.

Atambo and Muriithi were arrested and taken to the EACC headquarters for an interview.

However, through his lawyers, Watambo denied the allegations against her, stating that the money collected by EACC officials during the search at her home was her husband's.

The anti -corruption commission has been facing strong public officials suspected of engaging in corruption in recent times.

On March 12, EACC detectives arrested three people accused of pretending to be the commission's officials for the purpose of bribing.

The suspects were accused of pretending to be senior EACC investigators and used the fake status to rob government officials.

The suspects, former Kyululu ward representative in Kitui County James Mbuvi to eat, Mike Muthami Kasingi, and Raphael Muthoka Kithembe, were trapped in Three Hut, Komarock, awaiting the defensive complainant.

After a thorough search, EACC officials received 12 cell phones, 22 phone lines, and eight notebooks containing names and information of targeted victims.

This was done just days after EACC officials identified another network allegedly involved in corruption.
