The National Assembly has dismissed reports that key figures, especially from the opposition, had been nominated for cabinet positions in the Kenya Kwanza administration.

In a statement on Wednesday, March 12, 2025, the Clerk of the National Assembly Samuel Njoroge termed the reports as fake news.

The viral letter indicated that Makau Mutua, Mukhisa Kituyi, Ambassador Koki Muli, Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna, former Interior Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiang’i, Muhoho Kenyatta, and former Agriculture Cabinet Secretary Peter Munya had been fronted for various cabinet slots.

However, the clerk warned Kenyans, maintaining that the letter did not originate from parliament.

“The Office of the Clerk of the National Assembly has taken note of a letter circulating on various social media platforms purporting to announce the nomination of several individuals, including Prof. Makau Mutua, Dr. Mukhisa Kituyi, Ambassador Dr. Koki Muli, Edwin Sifuna, Fred Matiang’i, Muhoho Kenyatta, and Peter Munya, to unspecified positions.

“We wish to categorically state that the said letter is fraudulent, misleading, and does not originate from the National Assembly or any of its authorized offices. No such nominations have been made, and the document should be treated with the contempt it deserves,” the statement shared by Parliament Kenya read in part.

The reports went viral on various social media platforms following the signing of a working framework between the United Democratic Alliance (UDA) led by President William Ruto and the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) under the leadership of Raila.

The signing sparked reactions, with some opining that key Raila allies would land cabinet positions in the new arrangement.

How to verify info

With the arrangement expected to continue generating more reactions, the National Assembly advised Kenyans to verify such information, including the nomination of key people to government positions through their official channels.

Further, parliament implored citizens to refrain from sharing such misleading information expected to cause confusion.

“The public is advised to rely only on official communication from the National Assembly, which is disseminated through its official channels, including its website and verified social media pages.”

“We further urge citizens to be vigilant and refrain from spreading unverified information that may cause unnecessary confusion.
The Office of the Clerk remains committed to transparency and upholding the integrity of parliamentary processes. Any inquiries regarding official parliamentary matters should be directed to the clerk’s office through the official communication channels.”
