The Kenya National Examinations Council (KNEC) has explained why some of the 2024 national examination invigilators have not yet received their payment up to now.

KNEC, in a statement shared via social media on Wednesday, March 12, 2025, said that there are a number of reasons that have caused the payment delay.

“Are you a contracted professional who administered the 2024 national examination/assessments but have not received your payment from KNEC? Here are the possible reasons and what you need to do to have the issue resolved,” the statement read in part.

Reasons given by KNEC

One of the issues listed by KNEC to have been causing the payment delay is name mismatch. In this case, KNEC says the CP2 name and M-Pesa name of the phone number provided by the invigilator do not match. To solve this, those affected have been directed to create a new CP2 account with a registered Safaricom (M-Pesa) number matching their ID details.

Another reason that has been given is the issue of a missing ID number or TSC/PF number. To solve this, those affected have been urged to log in to the CP2 portal and update their details with the correct data.

KNEC has also listed missing documentation as another reason for non-payment. In this case, attendance registers were not submitted or were submitted but lacked official stamps and signatures. To solve the issue, the centre managers have been urged to download the attendance registers from the CP2 portal, verify the details, sign, stamp, and submit them to the Sub-County Director of Education (SCDE), who will forward the updated documents to KNEC.

CP2 nondeployment

Contracted professionals who worked but were not deployed in the CP2 portal have also not received their payments, and to solve the issue, KNEC has recommended they contact their SCDE and register their query for onward submission to KNEC. They should include the year invigilated or supervised, the exam invigilated or supervised, the code of the centre invigilated or supervised, the name of the officer, the role in the exam/assessment centre and the Safaricom M-Pesa number that matches their ID details.

KNEC also mentioned the slow response to KNEC requests for facilitation of data and/or late delivery of accurate and complete contracted professionals’ data as a reason some invigilators have not received their payment. The examination body says it processes complete and accurate data as it is received, and those affected have been requested to clean up their data and resend it through the SCDE.
