Liverpool forward Mohamed Salah is set to leave the Premier League at the end of the season for free after failing to agree a new contract with the Anfield outfit.

The Egyptian forward has been a revelation at Anfield since signing for the club in 2017 from Italian giants AS Roma in a £36.9 million deal, a club record at the time. In his last eight seasons at Anfield, Salah has been the most consistent performer at club and in the entire league, if his stats are any barometer.

Salah is the best definition of consistency. At 32, the former Chelsea man is at the peak of his powers  and showing no signs of slowing down. His eight years at Liverpool have been defined with consistency.

In his first season, he set the record for most Premier League goals scored (32) in a 38-game season and helped Liverpool to the 2018 UEFA Champions League final.

Salah has hit double figures for goals each season. In his underwhelming season, the diminutive forward has notched 19 goals.  Despite The Reds’ acrimonious exit in the Champions League on Tuesday in the hands of PSG, Liverpool  are having a brilliant season in the Premier League with Arne Slot’s side currently leading the table by 15 points from second-placed Arsenal, and are on course to win the title. This is largely  down to the brilliance of Salah.

In the 2024-25 season, Salah is enjoying his best performance with liverpool. In 29 EPL matches, he has 27 goals and 17 assists and has single-handedly  carried the Reds all season.

Liverpool legend Mohamed Salah

Having formed a formidable attacking trio with Roberto Firmino and Sadio Mané, Salah went on to be an integral player in the club’s Champions League and Premier League title successes in the 2018-19 and 2019-20 seasons.

He has since also won the FA Cup, EFL Cup, Community Shield, UEFA Super Cup and the FIFA Club World Cup. Salah has achieved numerous individual accolades, including two PFA Players’ Player of the Year awards, three Premier League Golden Boots, the Premier League Player of the Season, the Premier League Playmaker of the Season, finished third for the Best FIFA Men’s Player in 2018 and 2021, and finished fifth in the 2019 and 2022 Ballon d’Or, respectively.

He received the 2018 FIFA Puskás Award for his winning strike in the first Merseyside derby of the 2017–18 season. In 2023, Salah became Liverpool’s top goalscorer in the Premier League, and also became the fifth player to score 200 goals for the club. In 2025, he became Liverpool’s third-highest goalscorer in club history.

One element that has kept Salah on top of his game is he’s injury-free. In his entire career at Anfield to date, Salah has only missed up to a month with injury. He has also fitted into any system and thrived well under any coach since he can play in any of the attaking position.

Apart from Chelsea who were impatient with Salah and failed to give him time to prove himself, Salah has shone under all the last three managers he has worked under, irrespective of the system. Salah allows others to flourish in matches and coordinates with his fellow forwards if the understanding with Mane and Firmino was anything to go by. Under Slot, Salah has been given the room to roam and is more lethal, cutting from the right with his left foot.

Salah has nothing left to prove. He has won everything at club level. Salah is regarded as a symbol of national pride in Egypt for his achievements and was named in Time magazine’s list of the 100 Most Influential People in 2019.
