A family in Murang'a County is seeking assistance from the Kenyan government to save their 37 -year -old daughter facing the death penalty in Vietnam.
What crime did Margaret Nduta commit?
Margaret Nduta Macharia was found guilty on March 6, 2025 after the Vietnam court found him guilty of having two kilograms of drugs.
According to reports, the drugs were discovered hidden inside his bag at Tân Sơn NHất International Airport. Despite denying the charges, he was found guilty and sentenced.
KBC reported that Nduta claimed to have been asked to send a jacket to a Kenyan man identified as John to a woman. He said he received a payment of KSh 167,000 from John, who also paid him a plane ticket.
According to Vietnam's law, Nduta was sentenced to death and was given only seven days to appeal against the ruling.

Murang'a's family calls on the government to intervene
His mother, Purity Wangari, said his daughter left Kenya in July 2023 and was planning to live in Vietnam after finding a job.
“I received a call that Margaret was in court and had been sentenced to death,” He said in tears.
Wangari explained that he would be at peace knowing his daughter had returned home and was alive, instead of facing execution in a foreign country.
“I urge the government to help bring my daughter back home, even if it means serving her imprisonment here,” He pleaded.
Another family member also called on the government to intervene quickly, noting that it had only a few days left for Nduta to appeal against the court's decision.
“We have only two days left. We urge the Government to speed up the intervention so that our daughter can be sent home, ” Said the relative.
They referred to the 37 -year -old as a hardworking and honest woman, questioning how she ended up being involved in the crime.

The woman, Dorothy Kweyu, said that her son, Stephen Munkho, was found guilty of murder.
He said Munkho was found guilty of killing a colleague in Saudi Arabia, and the victim's family agreed to receive KSh 150 million as compensation for his release.
He explained that the tragic incident occurred in 2011, but he knew three days later when it was announced in the media. According to him, Munyango stabbed his colleague and caused his death as he protected himself.
