Sofapaka forward Edward Omondi ‘Ondimo’ has explained how he plans to catch Benni McCarthy’s eye for Harambee Stars ahead of the 2024 CHAN.

Sofapaka FC forward Edward ‘Ondimo’ Omondi has attributed his impressive goal-scoring form to relentless hard work and determination, setting ambitious targets for the future.

The 20-year-old winger, who joined Sofapaka from Rainbow FC during the off-season transfer window, has been a revelation in his maiden FKF Premier League campaign.

Omondi netted his sixth goal of the season in Sofapaka’s 1-1 draw against Mara Sugar on Saturday, March 2, at Dandora Stadium.

His goal came from a well-timed darting run to the near post, where he connected with a perfectly delivered corner kick from Baron Ochieng to head the ball into the net.

Born and raised in Dandora, where he still resides, Omondi has become a fan favorite in his hometown.

Reflecting on his form, he expressed his desire to catch the attention of new Harambee Stars coach Benni McCarthy and earn a spot in Kenya’s African Nations Championship (CHAN) squad.

Dan Shikanda reveals AFC Leopards’ bold move for Kasarani stadium land

AFC Leopards chairman Dan Shikanda has confirmed that the club officially submitted all the paperwork on Tuesday, 5th March 2025, to acquire the land in Kasarani supposed to be used for the building of its stadium.

“I am on a good run of form, and I just keep pushing myself to see if I can get the chance to feature in CHAN. I have to work extra hard in training and matches for the team. There is no stopping, and hopefully, that works out at the end of the season,” Omondi said.

Despite his personal success, Omondi voiced frustration over Sofapaka’s inability to maintain their lead against Mara Sugar, with Joseph Okwenda’s second-half strike denying them victory. The draw extended Sofapaka’s worrying run to just one win in their last seven games.

“It was a challenging game because both teams had chances to score, but if we had utilized our chances, we would have won. It was tough luck for them as well,” he remarked.

10 Best paid Africa national team coaches: Where does Kenya’s Benni McCarthy rank?

Harambee Stars coach Benni McCarthy has joined the list of highest paid Africa national team coaches but he still does not compare to many others on the continent.

Omondi emphasized the need for the team to reassess their approach and improve their finishing to turn their fortunes around.

“Scoring my sixth goal has been amazing, but at the back, we need to focus more, and we should have scored more goals. I think we are not finishing games well. We start well but tend to concede in the second half.”

As he continues to work hard in training, Omondi remains optimistic about his future, stating, “My form is taking me on a good way, but God’s timing is always the best. If God decides I will be there, so be it.”

With his electric performances and unwavering determination, Omondi is undoubtedly one of the most promising talents in Kenyan football, and his journey is one to watch closely.
