On Thursday, March 6, 2025, President William Ruto held a meeting with the British High Commissioner to Kenya, Neil Wigan, at State House Nairobi, where they discussed the Nairobi Railway City project a transformative urban initiative aimed at modernizing Nairobi’s railway transport infrastructure among other projects.
In a statement shared via his official X account after the high-level meeting, Ruto said that beyond the Nairobi Railway City, the discussions also covered climate action through the Africa Green Industrialisation Initiative, a collaborative effort to promote sustainable industrial practices in Africa.
Apart from exploring ways of advancing priority projects, the meeting focused on strengthening the strategic partnership between Kenya and the United Kingdom, Ruto, in the statement highlighted key areas of collaboration, including economic growth, technology, innovation, and research.
“At State House Nairobi, I met British High Commissioner@FCDONeilWigan, and discussed key areas of cooperation, focusing on economic collaboration, technology, innovation, and research. We also explored ways of advancing priority projects, including the Nairobi Railway City and climate action under the Africa Green Industrialisation Initiative,” Ruto said.
The Head of state further reaffirmed Kenya’s strong ties with the United Kingdom, emphasizing ongoing efforts to enhance bilateral cooperation through the Strategic Partnership Agreement for 2025–2030.
“The United Kingdom remains one of Kenya’s key strategic partners. As we strengthen this relationship, we are reviewing our Strategic Partnership Agreement for 2025–2030 to further enhance mutual growth and cooperation,” he added.
The leaders also delved into matters of regional peace and security, particularly in the Great Lakes region and the Horn of Africa, reinforcing the UK’s and Kenya’s commitment to stability and prosperity in the region.
“Additionally, we addressed regional peace and security in the Great Lakes region and the Horn of Africa,” Ruto stated.

Nairobi Railway City Project
Spanning 425 acres of prime land in Nairobi’s central business district, the Nairobi Railway City project which is set to redefine the landscape of the capital, is a flagship venture under Kenya’s Vision 2030 and is being developed with UK support to enhance mobility and economic activity in the capital.
The project is being funded by the UK through a public-private partnership (PPP) valued at Ksh30 billion.
Bounded by Haile Selassie Avenue, Uhuru Highway, Landhies Road, and Bunyala Road, upon completion, the project is set to decongest the existing central business district, improve urban mobility, and provide modern amenities to residents and visitors.
