Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) party leader Raila Odinga on Wednesday, March 5, 2025, made a brief touchdown in Kisumu after finalizing his political consultations in Wajir County.
Kisumu Governor Anyang Nyong’o confirmed the former premier’s itinerary on Wednesday evening via a statement on Facebook as he received the ODM leader at the Kisumu International Airport.
Nyongo further revealed Raila’s next destination for his nationwide consultative meetings.
According to the governor, Raila is set to tour the Gusii land regions of Kisii and Nyamira on Friday, March 7, 2025, as he continues with his political consultations.
The ODM leader will also visit parts of Narok during this trip.
“This evening, I had the honor of receiving Rt. Hon. Raila Odinga upon his arrival from Wajir County, accompanied by Wajir Governor H.E. Ahmed Abdullahi. His visit is part of his ongoing nationwide consultation and listening tour.
Rt. Hon. Raila Odinga is in Kisumu ahead of his scheduled tours to Kisii, Nyamira, and parts of Narok, set to begin tomorrow,” Nyongo said.
Raila’s Kisumu visit is his second since his return to Kenya following his failed bid for the African Union Chairmanship race.
Upon his return to the country on Monday, February 24, 2025, Raila’s first stop was in Mombasa where he met President William Ruto.
In Mombasa, the firebrand politician announced he would embark on consultations across the country, saying he will be meeting friends and supporters in a bid to consult widely for the next political step.
“We are available for Africa but more importantly we are availed for Kenya. I’m back home here. I’m going to meet with my friends and supporters. I’m going to consult widely for the next step forward and in due process we will confirm our way forward and announce it,” Raila said.
He set off to Kisumu the following day as the second destination of his nationwide consultative meeting.
“Kisumu Dala! I held consultations with Prof. @AnyangNyongo at City Hall today. We later listened to ODM local officials and youth representatives from across Kisumu County, engaging on their views on critical affairs of the country and reaffirming our commitment to democratically empower the next generation of leaders. Asante Kisumu for the warm welcome!” Raila said on his first tour of Kisumu.
Other regions that the former PM has visited so far include Mombasa, Busia and Kilifi.
On March 4, 2025, Raila was in the coastal region, where he engaged the people of Kwale County.
