Shabana boss convinced storm is over as new signings begin to show their claws

Shabana top brass believes the worst is over for the team after their biggest win of the season was witnessed on Sunday thanks to their midseason recruits.

Shabana secretary general Elizaphan Kerama believes the club has turned a corner and can now look forward to a successful second part of the season after their big win over Kakamega Homeboyz.

The Glamour Boys thrashed Homeboyz 4-1 at Gusii Stadium on Sunday to record their biggest victory of the season, the win coming after a four-match winless run.

Shabana had drawn three and lost one of their four matches in February and scored just two goals over that period, a spell that was blamed on the departure of striker Mathew Tegisi, who departed for Tanzanian club Pamba Jiji FC last December, leaving the goalscoring burden on Brian Michira.

Incoming Harambee Stars coach Benni McCarthy will get to work with the man he had selected as assistant after his current cut ties with him.

With Vincent Nyabuto out injured, Peter Okidi’s team found it tough and this forced the club into the market for reinforcements with midfield and attack the areas of emphasis.

Shabana have roped in Keith Imbali, Douglas Mokaya, Moses Shikanda, Derrick Oketch, Oscar Juma, Duke Kurio, Frank Mandela while Nehemiah Onchiri returned from his loan spell. With Nyabuto also recovering from his injury, Kerama feels now is time to climb higher up the table.

“We received a report from the technical bench on the specific areas that needed strengthening and that it what informed our decisions,” Kerama told Pulse Sports.

“The impact of those signings were felt from the Tusker match when Keith Imbali scored. Against Kakamega Homeboyz, two goals were scored by a new signing Oscar Juma and Imbali provided an assist.

“Tegisi was our main striker and when he made a move, the results were not good. The technical bench identified that area for reinforcements. We invested heavily in midfield and striking and brought in two strikers Oscar Juma and Kurio from Gucha. Nyabuto is now back after an injury and we know we are now good.”

Shabana are sixth on the table with 33 points from 23 FKF Premier League matches and will be eyeing a top five finish this season, in what would be a massive improvement from last term, when they escaped relegation in the final weeks of the campaign.
