Byanyima further questioned the reasons for the Ugandan courts to deprive the veteran leader of the opposition.
“After 20 years of honestly arriving in court for many criminal offenses, there is no reason to deprive him of bail @Kizzabesigye1. The judge must listen to his request and end this abuse. It is sufficient,” he added.

Besigye's legal problems
In recent months, Besigye has faced major legal and health challenges after being banned from allegations of treason and threatening national security.
Besigye's condition has been reported to be serious, raising concerns among international supporters and observers.
He, along with his assistant Lutale and Ugandan People's Defense Forces (UPDF) Denis Oola, were charged with treason.
The prosecution claimed that between 2023 and 2024, the three plotted to overthrow the Ugandan government, holding meetings in cities such as Geneva, Athens, Nairobi, and Kampala to plan and encourage military and financial support.
They were also accused of registering and teaching Ugandans in Kenya for military operations.
Due to the severity of the charges, the court returned them to the Luzira prison until March 7, 2025, depriving them of the opportunity to respond to their requests at this stage.
Besigye's health has been a hub of anxiety with reports showing that he has been on a dining strike since detention, causing high blood pressure events and further weakening his condition.
