Former Man United coach Benni McCarthy will be announced as the new Harambee Stars head coach

The Kenyan Football Federation (FKF) has officially announced Benni McCarthy as the new head coach of the National Men's team, Harambee Stars.

McCarthy was presented to the media by the general public at an event held at the Serena hotel on Monday afternoon, ending the weeks of great rumors.

McCarthy climbed onto the stage for the first time wearing a Harambee Stars jacket with her first letters a few minutes before 10 pm.

“It is Luck And the great honor for me to be here in Kenya. With the kind of names that a country has, with the right ideas we can reach the highest levels. We can reach the World Cup, ” McCarthy said.

The 47 -year -old explained why he chose Kenya from the many options he had.

“I liked the transparency that the president of FKF and his deputy came to me. In my heart I know how African football works.

List of things he needs to make McCarthy

McCarthy enters a team that needs an emergency after failing to qualify for the African Nations Cup again. However, he will have the African Nations tournament that Kenya will organize together in August, to form a squad for future responsibilities.

The tournament will not be easy considering that Harambee Stars were organized in Group A with double champions Morocco and DR Congo, Zambia and Angola.

His first role will be to lead the team to the 2026 World Cup qualifier against Gambia and Gabon later this month. The Gabon game will take place at Nyayo Stadium, giving him the opportunity to meet enthusiastic home fans in his first month.

“It is important to have a talent supply from the lower level to the highest level. It is important to form the right foundation for the youth and that is what is missing,” FKF President Hussein Mohamed He said on the occasion.

“This appointment gives us an opportunity for us to return to the basics. We have seen the extent that McCarthy has worked for and we have a good coach in our hands. This is what the country needs.

Mohamed also revealed that McCarthy's contract is up to Afcon 2027.

His deputy, McDonald Mariga, who was in charge of the committee on McCarthy, supported the president's views.

“We met several coaches and we wanted someone who had experience in Europe and in African football and McCarthy was the one who completed the bills.”

Francis Kimanzi, who has been leading the team over time and three other permanent positions, welcomed McCarthy's nomination.
