The story begins with the common church worship where believers sing songs of worship.
How a robbery suspect in church stole a phone
The situation changed after the camera grabbed the man as he skillfully squeezed his hand into a woman's wallet and stole the phone.
The act took only a few seconds, so much that it is difficult to detect with normal eyes.
After the robbery, he turned his head on both sides to look like anyone had seen him, then left his chair and left the church.
What is clear is that he did not expect the incident to be trapped by the camera.
Who is the suspect?
The incident has sparked anger, with many wondering why the suspect is still free despite the arrest of such offenses.
According to witnesses, the suspect known as John is from the Wanyori area, in the Muchatha ward.
Residents claim to have a history of stealing churches and has been jailed for such offenses.
“Several years ago, he was involved in another scandal of theft in the church and was imprisoned, but we do not understand why he is always released,” said one resident with concern.
Other cases of theft allegedly committed by the accused
Further reports indicate that John is a chronic thief targeting places of worship.
He allegedly stole in Nairobi Chapel last year, where he escaped with a laptop and other electronic devices.
In addition, he has been arrested for theft in the Citam Valley Road churches and Ack Mothiiya.
One Witness, Wanjiru Irungu, who was present during the robbery at Ack St. James Cathedral, expressed his sadness:
“I was present at the worship, wearing a sweater with an animal structure. A woman with a stolen phone is a person with a disability. It is very sad,” He complained.
Church members and Kiambu residents now want the government to take drastic measures to ensure the accused is brought before the law.
Many are urging the authorities to put in place effective strategies to control this kind of crime, especially in houses of worship, where people should feel security and comfort.
