Who are the suspects of Richard Otieno murder?

Following his horrific killings, investigators from the Criminal Investigation Department (DCI) have arrested nine suspects to assist in ongoing investigations.

Three suspects – Peter Oketch, famous Dj Io, Joseph Kihara Kariuki, famous Jose, and Evans Aseka Okututi – were arrested on February 23 after several weeks of arrest. This followed the arrest of six other suspects, including a bodaboda.

Authorities report that the three fled Tanzania Immediately after the crime before returning to Kenya secretly.

According to technical evidence, the suspects were associated with the criminal area, as well as other people who have not yet been arrested.

Further investigations showed that the perpetrators were transported from Molo to Elburgon to carry out the killings.

Who planned Richard Otieno's murder?

The Citizen Digital newspaper reported that detectives identified Oketch as the protagonist of the murder, which is said to have been employed by an unknown person.

Oketch is believed to hire a group of suspects, including boda boda and vendors, to assist him in the plot. The group is said to have been promised KSh 300,000 for implementing the program.

Preliminary reports indicate that there was an initial payment of KSh 3,000, followed by an additional KSh 5,000, making their total revenue to KSh 8,000. In addition, they were allegedly promised a piece of land as compensation for the act.

In an affidavit requested overtime for the investigation, chief investigator Inspector Patrick Wachira explained in detail how Oketch hired Kariuki and Aseka to carry out the crime.

The authorities also revealed the involvement of a blogger, who was reportedly associated with a sponsor, who helped identify and lead the killers for their purpose.

Otieno's massacre sparked anger among residents, who entered the streets marching while carrying his body and demanding justice.

His killings are coming amid an increase in kidnapping cases targeting young people criticizing the government.

The defendants are expected to appear before the Chief Justice Kipkurui Kiberlion in response to the charges on Wednesday, March 5, 2025, with an investigation into the brutal murder of the activist.

How much did Uhuru Kenyatta give Otieno widow?

Meanwhile, speaking during the Otieno memorial service on February 5, Advocate Dan Mwangi revealed that the former president Uhuru Kenyatta He was deeply saddened by his brutal killings, especially considering their history.

To help the widow and children of Otieno, Uhuru gave KSh 500,000, expressing his solidarity with the mourning family.

Mwangi assured them that the money would be spent on accountability in honor of Otieno's responsibility for accountability.
