‘That’s what I stand for’- Seb Coe on what sets him apart from other IOC presidential candidates

Seb Coe believes his lifelong passion and reform-driven vision set him apart in the race for the IOC presidency.

World Athletics president Sebastian Coe has explained how his manifesto greatly differs from other candidates as he eyes the IOC presidential seat.

Seb Coe pointed out that he is not after the top seat because of the pride that comes with it but he is doing it out of passion.

He explained that when he entered the office as World Athletics president in 2015, right after the World Championships in Beijing, things were not the way he expected them to be, seemingly noting that he can handle any form of pressure.

Why Kishane Thompson’s decision to take part in the World Indoor Championships could be bad news for his competitors, especially Noah Lyles.

Seb Coe pointed out that the two years after that were all about sanitization, to ensure that the sport was clean and also focus on gender equality.

“This is about change and it’s change with a reform with stability and that’s important. When I first went to World Athletics, we were in very poor shape,” Seb Coe shared in an interview with ABC Sport.

“The first two years were pretty horrible and it was those first two years that I spent probably making sure the ship didn’t sink.

“We then rewrote the constitution and created some things that I now look at as gold standard including the Athletics Integrity Unit.”

Seb Coe bragged about World Athletics being the only sporting governing body in the world to have attained the gender rule, working with 50% of both genders.

He revealed that, also, he wanted to go for the seat to represent athletes, having been an Olympic athlete for years.

“I’m very proud that we are the only sporting organisation in the world that has a gender balanced counsel, 13 men and women,” Seb Coe shared.

“They were elected through competence and that’s what I stand for. Ever since I was 11, when I wore my running shoes, I’ve been preparing for this role, it’s not a job, it’s a passion. I’ve been in training for this for the bulk of my life.”

For the top seat, Seb Coe goes up against HRH Prince Feisal Al Hussein, Mrs Kirsty Coventry, Mr Johan Eliasch, Mr David Lappartient, Mr Juan Antonio Samaranch, and Morinari Watanabe. The elections are scheduled for March 18 to 21 during the 143rd IOC Session in Greece.
