“My dream was to become a boxer and leave a legacy but that didn’t work out so I decided to write a book and I have highlighted several things: Exercise methods, good nutrition, eating a lot of fruit and meat as well as alcohol and its effects and how to know your the body type,” Jamil said following the bold move.
Jamil Zafa remains one of Kenya’s top boxing coaches who has worked with the likes of Fatuma Zarika and Rayton Okwiri and he hopes the book will be beneficial to the professionals and the upcoming athletes.
“When Zarika lost the WBC Title, I told her that it is not the end of her life. She is the first champion I have trained,” Jamil said.

Why Kishane Thompson’s decision to take part in the World Indoor Championships could be bad news for his competitors, especially Noah Lyles.
“We got another WBF belt and we prepared well and won that Belt. And also Rayton Okwiri there was a time I was his coach and we won the ABU title.”
He explained that his major reason to quit was because of the federation wrangles, something that has been a nightmare to many Kenyan sports people.
Two years ago, he was also involved in an accident that was an eye-opener for him and luckily, he learnt how to navigate through the struggle.
“I played amateur boxing and I became a professional boxer, but a lot happened in the federation then I decided to stop fighting and became a coach,” he shared.
“The accident taught me a lot, I lost friends except my family, I lost everything.”
The president of the Kenya Professional Boxing Commission Reuben Ndolo was the guest of honour during the launch and he was over the moon following Jamil Zafa’s bold move.
Rueben Ndolo congratulated Jamil for his contribution to the boxing community, pointing out that the book will be of help and will extend beyond the boxers.
“First, I congratulate him for the good work he did in writing his book, which is suitable for many sportsmen and non-sportsmen. This is a new awakening for us in the boxing community,” Ndolo shared.
Meanwhile, Jamil Zafa was born in 1984 in Mombasa Kenya and raised in Nairobi, and his love for boxing began when he was very young. He is the first author to ever write a fitness book in Kenya and the second in East Africa.
