More construction materials have arrived in Kasarani as phase two of renovations commence.
The Confederation of African Football (CAF) and Kenya’s Local Organising Committee (LOC) have provided an update on the ongoing renovations at Kasarani Stadium as preparations for the 2024 African Nations Championship (CHAN) continue.
The tournament, set to be partly hosted in Kenya in August, has seen significant infrastructural progress, with the latest CAF inspection confirming that the stadium is on track for completion.
The latest update comes as Kenyan football fans celebrate the long-awaited return of Harambee Stars to competitive action on home soil. Kenya will host Gabon in March 2024 for their fifth 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifier—their first competitive international match at home since 2021.
Nicholas Musonye, Chairman of Kenya’s CHAN/AFCON Local Organising Committee, expressed confidence in the progress made so far, particularly at Kasarani and Nyayo Stadium.
“We have made good progress in our preparations, with Kasarani making steps in the right direction and Nyayo also maintaining good momentum,” Musonye stated on Sunday following the CAF inspection tour.
CAF Director of Tournaments and Events, Samson Adamu, who led a similar visit in January, praised the Kenyan authorities for their commitment to ensuring the tournament’s success.

“I’d like to thank Kenya for the commitment to make sure the tournament is a success. A lot of people were excited about the CHAN draw organized in Nairobi.
“Congratulations to Kenya because there is great progress since January, which means that work has not stopped even after the tournament was postponed from February to August,” Adamu remarked.
The CAF delegation toured key competition venues, including Nyayo and Kasarani Stadiums, as well as training facilities at Kasarani Annex, Ulinzi Sports Complex, and Police Sacco Stadium.

What is new at Kasarani?
The latest phase of the renovation has seen the arrival of materials for the stadium’s canopy, floodlights, and electronic scoreboards. At Nyayo Stadium, one of the four new floodlights has already been installed, with work progressing on the remaining three.
The playing surface, changing rooms, and media tribune at Nyayo are reportedly complete and will undergo testing during the Kenya vs. Gabon World Cup qualifier.

Earlier this year, it was reported that Kasarani’s ultra-modern changing rooms had already been completed and were only awaiting post-construction cleaning. These facilities include:
