Reynold Cheruiyot to light up Kip Keino Classic after Sirikwa Classic dominant exploits

Reynold Cheruiyot secured victory at the Sirikwa Classic and is now focused on making an impact in the upcoming track season, starting with the Kip Keino Classic.

Reynold Cheruiyot has promised to light up the Kip Keino Classic after claiming top honours in the men’s 2km loop at the Sirikwa Classic Cross Country on Saturday at the Lobo Village in Eldoret.

The former world under-20 1500m champion has been a frequent competitor in the Athletics Kenya cross-country series and he believes that the competitions have helped him gain the strength and momentum for the long 2025 track season.

He claimed top honors in the race, clocking 6:01 minutes ahead of his serial competitors Phanuel Koech and Frankline Kimutai who finished second and third in respective times of 6:02 and 6:04 minutes.

Usain Bolt’s girlfriend, Kasi Bennett, is a Jamaican entrepreneur and social media influencer, known for her long-term relationship with the sprint legend and their journey as a family.

Cheruiyot started his 2025 season with the national cross-country championships where he finished an impressive second behind Emmanuel Wanyonyi in the men’s 2km loop.

Now, the focus shifts to the track season where he intends to start off on home soil, competing at the Kip Keino Classic scheduled for Saturday, April 20 at the Nyayo National Stadium in Nairobi, Kenya.

After that, he will be looking forward to competing at the Diamond League Meeting in Oslo where he intends to have a great start to his international tour, building up for the World Championships in Tokyo, Japan.

Faster than lightening: 3 Athletes who have broken Usain Bolt’s record

Three athletes have risen to the challenge, breaking Usain Bolt’s records and signaling a new era of speed in track and field.

“The race was okay because there were not so many challenges and the runway was a bit tiny, not like the one where we ran at the National Cross Country Championships,” Reynold Cheruiyot said in an interview after the race.

“This one I’ve used it as a build-up for the very long track season. The 2km helps me build my strength and ensure my body is well-prepared for the long season. I will start with the Kip Keino Classic and then head to the Diamond League Meeting in Oslo.”

Reynold Cheruiyot remains one of the consistent 1500m runners, from dominating the junior category to now looking forward to impressing in the senior category.

He represented the country at last year’s Paris Olympic Games where he made the semifinal but his 10th-place finish was not enough to secure him a place in the final.
