‘You can’t compare me to him’- Quincy Wilson gets real on Gout Gout and the rise of young track stars

Quincy Wilson acknowledges Gout Gout’s impressive rise but emphasizes their different paths, highlighting the growing impact of young athletes in track and field.

Olympic champion Quincy Wilson has explained why he should not be compared to Australian teen sensation Gout Gout just yet.

Quincy Wilson revealed that Gout Gout has already made a lot of progress as far as his career is concerned and is way ahead of him in terms of going professional.

Gout Gout made the bold move to sign with Adidas just at the age of 16, something that Quincy Wilson has yet to do as he maintains focus on his education first despite being one of the best teen athletes.

Quincy Wilson praised the world under-20 200m silver medallist, noting that he has a certain type of confidence that he admires.

“Gout Gout is the truth bro, he is the truth for sure. This is form, I look at him like I need that, like that boy is always stepping up, he is very smooth,” Quincy Wilson said on the Beyond the Records podcast.

“You can’t compare me to him though, if we are really being for real though, he signed a pro contract and I’m still in high school. I didn’t sign a professional contract and age doesn’t matter professionally, you gotta put it like that.”

What Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce eats that has played a huge role in her longevity & sets her apart from others

Quincy Wilson revealed that senior athletes should be worried following the consistency the youngsters have when it comes to track and field.

He pointed out Letsile Tebogo, the reigning Olympic 200m champion as one of the trailblazers who is proof that age does not matter when it comes to showing up on the senior level.

“The future is bright…you see like Tebogo, you see all these young athletes, the youth has changed but even if you go at the US number one, these kids are moving dawg,” Wilson shared.

“I don’t even know, like if you go into a high school meet and run 20 seconds and something, you lose. You will not even get second, I’m talking about losing, I’m talking about finishing last.”

The indoor season has already seen the high school athletes drop spectacular times and the Paris Olympic Games also witnessed the same with the likes of Alana Reid, Quincy Wilson, Tia Clayton and Letsile Tebogo among others.

Most youngsters are eyeing slots to the World Indoor Championships in China before heading outdoors where their main focus will be on qualifying for the World Championships in Tokyo, Japan.
