Former Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) Chairperson Wafula Chebukati has died, his family has confirmed.
Chebukati, 63, died Thursday evening while undergoing treatment at a Nairobi hospital.
He had been unwell for some time, though the circumstances surrounding his illness remain unclear.
Chebukati, a lawyer by profession, served as the chairperson of the electoral commission from 2017 until his retirement in January 2023.
He was the first IEBC Chairperson to successfully complete the six-year constitutional term.
