The Jubilee Party has endorsed Fred Matiang’i as the party’s presidential candidate ahead of the 2027 elections.

Secretary-General Jeremiah Kioni on Thursday, February 20, 2025, revealed that the decision was arrived at following a consultation with the party’s representatives from across the country.

Kioni, however, clarified that Matiang’i will be considered the presidential candidate within the party as the outfit holds further talks with Azimio coalition partners to come up with a final presidential candidate in 2027.

“These members here have joined others across the country and other leaders of other parties by also saying they want their own presidential candidate as a party,” Kioni stated.

“This is not to mean that he (Matiangi) become the eventual candidate but a presidential candidate within the party who will join others in coming up with one person who I believe as a coalition in the opposition we will be able to back,” he clarified.

On the next phase of settling on the single flagbearer to contest against President William Ruto, Kioni pledged that the coalition would extensively engage with the public in what he termed will be an inclusive process.

The former MP further relayed his confidence that the leader settled upon will be a suitable candidate.

“The party’s organ themselves has decided on Matiang’i within Jubilee. Later he will meet against other leaders from the other coalitions and agree and come up with the best place to lead them forward,” he stressed.

“It’s not a decision to be made within the boardroom. It is a decision that must involve Kenyans. Kenyans must voice their choice of who they want among all those people. I’m confident that would happen.

Through a statement via his X page, Kioni tore at the Ruto regime’s inability to address the problems facing Kenyans.

Kioni took the opportunity to express Jubilee’s readiness to come to the rescue of Kenyans through a leadership change.

“It is now crystal clear that this regime has lost the plot! Kenyans are burdened by reckless leadership, misplaced priorities, and broken promises. The government has abandoned the very people it swore to serve, choosing instead to plunge the nation into economic turmoil and political instability,” his message read.

“As Jubilee, we reaffirm our commitment to championing the interests of the people. We will not sit back as Kenyans suffer! We will mobilize, organize, and push for real change. The time for action is now! We call upon all patriots to stand with us in holding this administration accountable. The future of our country is at stake, and we must rise to the occasion! Jubilee remains steadfast, united, and ready to lead the way. Kenya deserves better!
