Kenyan women face North African curse as Harambee Starlets play Tunisia in AWCON qualifier

National women’s team Harambee Starlets have their work cut out in the Africa Cup of Nations qualifier against Tunisia.

Harambee Starlets will hope to maximise on the home advantage if they hope to overcome a tough test against Tunisia in the Women’s Africa Cup of Nations qualifier.

The first leg of the encounter will be played at the Ulinzi Complex on Friday, a match the Starlets must win to ease off pressure ahead of the return leg set for Tunis.

Ahead of the crucial tie, experienced Starlets forward Cynthia Shilwatso reckons that the team must execute their mandate perfectly in order to realize their dream of making it to the tournament proper for only the second time in their history.

Shilwatso, who plies trade in Turkey, told Capital Sports: “For me, I feel that Friday’s match is a must-win for us. If we win big against them, then we will be under minimal pressure when we go for the return leg in Tunis.”

Elizabeth Wambui said the Starlets will leave their hearts on the field to realize their dreams. “Once you fall down, it does not mean you remain down there. We fell down once but we are now back up. We know what it means for the country (to qualify for Afcon) and we are ready to fight for it,” she insisted.
