Kabras Sugar’s George Nyambua reveals key weaknesses exposed by Kenya Harlequins

Kabras Sugar’s George Nyambua has revealed one weakness that was exposed by Kenya Harlequins during their 43-22 win over the Nairobi-based outfit last weekend they must rectify.

Kabras Sugar’s back-row stalwart George Nyambua has underscored the areas his teammates must address to maintain their dominance after their 43-22 victory over Kenya Harlequin last Saturday.

Despite extending their perfect run to eight consecutive wins, the defending champions exhibited some vulnerabilities that their opponents capitalized on.

The reigning champions remain unbeaten in the 2025 season, sitting comfortably atop the standings with 40 points.

Mokoro is the fourth Kenyan to have dumped Kenya Cup rugby to pursue greener pastures in Romania, and all it took was one game for Quins against Mwamba in late 2023 for the opportunity to pop up.

However, their latest triumph was tainted by repeated infringements, leading to them conceding 15 points from penalties. Additionally, they allowed their first try of the season when Quins’ Leon Nyang breached their defense for a consolation score.

Nyambua acknowledged these shortcomings, stressing the importance of staying disciplined and sticking to their game plan.

“Playing Kenya Harlequins at home has never been easy for us. I remember last season when we met here, they were leading at halftime, and we had to mount a strong comeback,” he recalled.

'That upset me deeply'- Usain Bolt calls out Yohan Blake & others for disregarding coach Glen Mills

Usain Bolt has expressed disappointment in Yohan Blake and others for failing to follow Coach Glen Mills’ guidance, which led to their struggles.

He further noted how Quins once again managed to take the lead at the start of the second half before Kabras regrouped.

“It was a tight contest. We managed to win, yes, but they were leading again in the beginning of the second half. So coming to play them here, we had to strategize how we were going to beat them. We had a plan, and I can say it really worked well for us.

“We had to dominate our set pieces, carry the ball hard, and stick to the structure. And finally, we won.”

Nyambua, however, believes that their mid-game struggles stemmed from a lapse in adherence to their tactical blueprint.

'He can be as great as me'- Usain Bolt opens up on mystery Jamaican athlete that earned his nod

Greats of the current generation of sprinters have earned comparison to Usain Bolt but it is a mystery Jamaican athlete that got the world’s fastest man’s nod.

“We started well—like a house on fire in the first 15 minutes—but then we dipped because the guys did not stick to the structure, so we had to play their game. It became quite tough for us because things were not really working out.

“ That’s why it was a bit shaky towards the end of the first half, but again, we had to re-strategize in the second half.”

Looking ahead, Nyambua is wary that their continued dominance has put a target on their backs, with rival teams actively collaborating to devise strategies to dethrone them.

“Among these teams is Nondescripts, who are keen to bounce back after a heavy 53-08 defeat to KCB.

“We are playing Nondies at home next weekend, and let me say that we are now entering the big games. Every team is working hard to beat Kabras.

“They are coming up with different strategies and even combining coaches in Nairobi to find ways to beat us. Being at the top, everyone wants the icing on the cake.”

Despite the looming challenge, Nyambua remains confident that Kabras Sugar is prepared for the task ahead.

“For Nondies, we are going back to the drawing board. We will plan for them because we know they are a strong side and have been in good form this season. We can’t take them for granted. But we have a plan, and it won’t be a surprise if we finish this season unbeaten.”

With their defensive resilience put to the test and tactical discipline emerging as a focal point, Kabras Sugar will need to make the necessary adjustments to sustain their unbeaten run and fend off the growing competition.
