In a statement on Tuesday, February 18, Museveni defended the ongoing case against Besigye.

According to Museveni, the veteran opposition leader was charged with serious offenses that could be decided only by answering charges in court.

He said that Besigye should also simplify the immediate hearing of the case to prove that he was innocent instead of apologizing and asking for bail.

Regarding Besigye's issues, Museveni said his administration is ready to provide additional medical care if a need arises.

The longtime president said Besigye's condition is currently independent, considering that he refused to eat in custody.

According to Museveni, the veteran leader of the opposition was using a dining strike to bring sympathy for bail.

He said Besigye should demand that the case be heard quickly, adding that the military court is ready for the case at any time.

“However, in this case, Dr. Besigye, was on a dining strike. That was part of the cause of his weaknesses we could see in the pictures in the newspapers. , then, your response is a hunger strike to produce sympathy for bail, etc.?
