Gudaf Tsegay aims to redeem herself at the World Championships, warning rivals Faith Kipyegon and Beatrice Chebet after threatening her world record in Poland.
Gudaf Tsegay has warned Faith Kipyegon, Beatrice Chebet and Co as she sets targets for the World Championships in Tokyo, Japan later this year.
The reigning world 10,000m champion has already opened her 2025 season and hopes to build up on her momentum ahead of the moment of truth.
She is fresh from threatening her 1500m indoor world record at the ORLEN Copernicus Cup where she clocked a stunningly fast time of 3:53.92.

Gudaf Tsegay started her season with the 3000m race at a meeting in Lievin where her main goal was to go for the world record but she fell short due to a flu and had to settle for second place.
However, now that she is back in the grind and healthy, she has already set targets aiming to silence her fierce Kenyan rivals.
“This year I wanted the 3000m world record in Lievin but I missed it due to a flu. However, I shift focus to the next assignment and I want another gold for the World Championships,” Gudaf Tsegay said in an interview after the race.

She expressed gratitude to have been able to return to her winning ways in Poland, revealing that the flu had her in a chokehold and she could not execute her races well.
Gudaf Tsegay pointed out that she is in the form of her life at the moment and is looking forward to seeing the magic she can do on the track in her upcoming races.
“I’m very happy to have run a very fast race on this track in Poland…about one or two weeks ago, I had a very strong flu and despite being in good shape and very hard working, sometimes these things do happen,” Tsegay said.

“It’s not always a leg injury and sometimes it can be something else…for example a strong flu is not good for an athlete and that’s what I have been battling but now I’m okay and so happy that I ran here.”
Tsegay was one of the greatest losers from the Paris Olympic Games and will be hoping to make up for all the setbacks she encountered.
She competed in the 1500m, 5000m and 10,000m and failed to win a medal in all three events. In the controversial 5000m final, Tsegay could only afford a ninth-place finish as Beatrice Chebet and Faith Kipyegon took first and second places respectively.
In the 1500m, Gudaf Tsegay faded to a 12th-place finish as Faith Kipyegon made history, winning her third Olympic title. The 10,000m saw Beatrice Chebet claim top honours with the Ethiopian finishing sixth.
