Unwell Letsile Tebogo opens 2025 season early with surprise 400m race

Despite not feeling 100%, Letsile Tebogo surprised fans by opening his 2025 season early with a 400m race before his scheduled debut in Melbourne.

Olympic 200m champion Letsile Tebogo has opened his 2025 season sooner than fans expected.

The Motswana youngster had announced his season opener would be at the Maurie Plant Meet on Saturday, March 29, 2025, at Lakeside Stadium in Melbourne, Australia and that’s where fans expected to see him run for the first time in 2025.

However, despite being unwell, Letsile Tebogo opted to impress his home fans with a show before heading to Melbourne later next month.

Amid a $12.8M fraud case and stalled government action over his lost investment, Usain Bolt lashed out at a fan by retorting, ‘Don’t be a syndicate.’

He competed in the 400m race at the BAA Track And Field Series 2 held at the National Stadium in Gaborone where he clocked 48.94 seconds to finish second.

Letsile Tebogo seemed to struggle a bit during the race, something that fans expected since he had confirmed not to be fully 100% when starting in the blocks.

Meanwhile, the reigning world 100m silver medallist was in a class of his own last season and he hopes to continue the winning ways to 2025.

Tebogo fell short in the Diamond League Meeting final in Brussels where he finished second behind Kenny Bednarek and missed out on the trophy.

However, that was just the beginning for him as he looks to continue the red-hot streak this season with the World Championships in Tokyo, Japan the main focus.

At the 2023 World Championships in Budapest, Hungary, Letsile Tebogo won the silver medal in the 100m and bronze in the 200m and he will be hoping to go one place better in both event categories.
