Keely Hodgkinson expresses her disappointment as woes before the season aggravate.
Olympic 800m champion Keely Hodgkinson has confirmed her worst fears ahead of the 2025 season.
The 22-year- old is set to be out for up to six weeks with an injury, ruling her out of the World Indoor Championships in March, in an early blow for the budding runner.
Keely Hodgkinson will not be part of the qualifiers for the Nanjing, China event with the injury also ruling her out of her world record attempt at the Keely Klassic on Saturday, Birmingham.
“It’s a grade three, so it’s pretty decently done. I am hoping up to six weeks. It could be quicker, it could be longer. But it shouldn’t affect my outdoor season, which is the main thing. It’s just really, really bad timing,” Hodgkinson told the Daily Mail.
Hodgkinson, a two-time Diamond League champion, has never won a medal at the World Indoors. This is the second consecutive time the Britton will miss competing in the world indoor after missing last year’s showpiece in Glasgow with an injury too.
Keely Hodgkinson is a two-time European 800m champion. She revealed that she was hopeful the damage wasn’t severe but after undergoing scans, it was found out that she had suffered from muscle tear.
“At first I thought, “Maybe it’s not too bad”, and then I got a scan and it revealed a bit of a tear. Unfortunately, hamstrings are quite temperamental. They are not to be messed with. I am not going to be running for a little while,” Keely Hodgkinson maintained.
“The doctor said it was a moderate one. But it’s near the tendon, which makes it a little bit more fragile. It’s sitting on a nerve as well.”
Keely Hodgkinson capitalised on the absence of A thing Mu to cut the tape first at the Paris Olympic Games. In the final, Hodgkinson led the race from early on, breaking away in the final 100m, and beating Ethiopia’s Tsige Duguma and reigning World and Commonwealth Games champion, Mary Moraa.
