‘It’s busy and fun, but packed’- Noah Lyles opens up on the demands of track stardom

Noah Lyles has opened up on his busy schedule as a superstar track and field athlete.

American sprint sensation Noah Lyles has revealed how his schedule has intensified as his career has progressed, with his days now filled with training, media obligations, and major projects.

Lyles, who holds the American record in the 200m with a blistering 19.31 seconds, is one of the most decorated sprinters of his generation.

The Olympic champion and six-time world champion has dominated both the 100m and 200m, completing a historic sprint treble at the 2023 World Championships by clinching gold in the 100m, 200m, and 4x100m relay.

Track and NFL fans will finally get to watch Noah Lyles and Tyreek Hill race each other after months of challenging and throwing jabs at each other.

However, as his success has grown, so too has the demand on his time. Speaking on his newly launched Beyond the Records podcast, which he co-hosts with fellow track stars Rai Benjamin and Grant Holloway, Lyles responded to a question from Australian teenage sensation Gout Gout about what daily life looks like for an established sprinter.

“I go to practice at 9, finish around 1:30 with track and gym, then I’ll go back home. If I don’t have a massage or something like that, I’ll eat and then be at meetings,” Lyles explained.

He reminisced about his earlier years, highlighting the stark difference between his routine now and when he first turned professional straight out of high school after signing with Adidas.

‘Time to end the debate’ - Noah Lyles & NFL star Tyreek Hill finally set date for epic showdown

The wait is over as Olympics champion Noah Lyles and NFL star Tyreek Hill have agreed to race each other, setting the stage for a major showdown.

“This is not how it used to be. When I was your age, I used to play video games with the boys, we’d have game nights, go out and find places to eat—anything fun. Go to Disney, Universal—just fun activities.

“Now, it’s a lot of meetings, but for fun things. I’ll have a call with Jack, my YouTube guy, and we’re like, ‘What’s the next YouTube project? Oh, let’s do a promo for the next track meet we’ll be going to.’”

Lyles also acknowledged how being engaged to fellow sprinter Junelle Bromfield has added another layer of responsibility to his packed schedule.

“I’ll get a call from my agent, and he’s like, ‘Hey, GQ and Vogue want to do a project together and they’re asking if you’d like to be a part of it.’ Heck yeah! But let me check with my fiancée first because I don’t want to get in trouble.”

From Jesse Owens to Usain Bolt: The evolution of men's 100m world record - Where does Noah Lyles fit in?

The 100m world record has evolved with Noah Lyles emerging as a top contender to challenge Usain Bolt’s legendary mark.

He continued: “Or it’s something like, ‘We’re talking about a track meet, and we think it would be really good. Talk to Coach B to make sure we’re working it into the plan.’ Those are the kind of meetings.”

Lyles admitted that there are stretches where he barely gets to spend time at home due to his commitments.

“There are days I won’t see the house for two weeks straight because I’m either going to a track meet, then after that the Super Bowl, then after that New York, and then I’ll finally make it home.

“It’s busy and fun, but packed. But this is what I prayed for.”

Lyles’ candid revelation underscores the level of dedication required to maintain success at the highest level of track and field. Despite the whirlwind schedule, he remains committed to his craft and continues to elevate both his personal brand and the sport.
