Mahamoud Ali Youssouf: Raila's main opponent responds to allegations he has withdrawn from the UAC race

Ethiopia – Djibouti's Foreign Minister Mahamoud Ali Youssouf has responded to reports of his withdrawal from the election of the eagerly expected African Union Commission.

A few days before the election, reports in Arabic media stated that Youssouf had withdrawn from the race and favored a Kenyan candidate, Raila Odinga.

The reports emerged after a small meeting between Ysouf and the Minister of Foreign Affairs Musalia Mudavadi In Addis Ababa, Ethiopia.

However, in a statement on Wednesday, February 12, Youssouf dismissed the media reports insisting that he was still in the race.

“Incorrect information about my commitment to the race for the position of chairman of the African Union Commission was reported in some Arab media; I confirm here that I am still in the competition, ” Youssouf said.

The Djibouti candidate is considered a major threat to the former prime minister's position to win the desired seat.

What will leaving power mean for Mahamoud?

Political analyst and lawyer Javas Bigambo tested the situation, discussing the consequences of Mahamoud if he decided to resign.

In an exclusive interview with TUKO.co.keBigambo said that the situation could be viewed as a campaign strategy with the Raila team or as a attempt by some Kenyans to show Raila if he was leading the race.
