‘I can do it’ – Agnes Jebet reveals lofty 2025 target after Paris Olympics heartbreak

Agnes Jebet plots big this year and explains why 2024 serves as motivation.

Ten kilometers world record holder Agnes Jebet is targeting the half marathon world record this year after missing the Paris Olympic Games.

The 2023 World Cross Country bronze medalist says she wants to achieve more success at the elite level and will not stop at merely smashing the women’s 10km world record. Her sentiments come after fully recovering from an injury that ruled her out of the Paris Olympics but is now entirely focused to redeem herself.

Gabby Thomas has opened up on how being an elite track athlete has impacted her relationships.

“Breaking the world record and coming close to smashing the one for the half marathon was a huge motivation for me considering I missed the Paris Olympics with an injury. That was my ultimate target but I missed out. I still want more…I don’t want to stop at the 10km world record. I missed out on the world record for the half marathon and I am motivated that I can do it,” Jebet told Capital Sports.

Jebet 25, clocked 28:26 at the Valencia Ibercaja 10km race in Spain where she set the world record last year. In October 224, she returned to the City but missed the half marathon record by the smallest margin, as she cut the tape first in 1:03:04.

She said she looks up to idols Faith Kipyegon and Beatrice Chebet for inspiration to push her to her limits, as she prepares for another onslaught on glory. The duo is undoubted Kenya’s finest in their respective disciplines, having both clinched gold in Paris Olympics, boosting the country’s athletics+mad standards at the global stage.

Jebet’s season begins on February 22 when she highlights the fourth edition of the Sirikwa Classic World Cross Country Tour in Eldoret.

“It is just like a buildup because I am looking forward to Grand Slam and the World Championships in Tokyo. It has been a while since I last competed in cross country and I am looking forward to running here (Lobo Village) in a week’s time,” the 2023 Lille Half Marathon champion said.
