‘Let’s do it!’- Serena Williams distances herself from Drake talk after Kendrick Lamar Super Bowl performance

Serena Williams shut down speculation about her Super Bowl performance being a dig at Drake, explaining she joined Kendrick Lamar simply for the experience.

Celebrated tennis star Serena Williams has seemingly calmed down the rumours that she was dissing her rumoured ex-boyfriend Drake when she appeared at Kendrick Lamar’s halftime performance at the Super Bowl.

Fans were not only thrilled with her exceptional dancing skills but also with the fact that Kendrick Lamar wrote the song to address Drake who allegedly had something going with Serena Williams back in 2015.

However, Serena has addressed the claims, revealing that she and Kendrick Lamar had always wanted to work together and once the opportunity came up, she could not let it go.

The four-time Olympic champion explained that she had never danced at a Super Bowl and probably, that would be her only opportunity to showcase her skills, hence the decision to show up and out.

“When @kendricklamar and team called and was like ‘we’ve been trying to do something forever, what about this? We loved your crip walk at the Olympics after you won the gold medal.’,” Serena shared in a post on her Instagram handle.

“I’m like Super Bowl? Are you serious? When in the world would I ever be able to dance at a superbowl? (Never) let’s do it! I knew my winning dance after the @olympics would pay off one day. End of story.”

Her crip walk dance is vividly remembered at the London Olympics in 2012 where she was celebrating after beating Maria Sharapova and at the time, it attracted a lot of criticism.

At the time, critics insisted that the dance was inappropriate and promoted gang violence since it was invented by members of a Los Angeles-area street gang. However, it was later incorporated into the hip-hop community.

Defending herself after the Super Bowl performance, Serena Williams explained that she had danced like that in London in 2012 and revealed that if she had, she would have received a hefty fine.

Some people still find it hard to move on from the incident but Serena Williams is way past that and having executed almost a similar dance at the Super Bowl, it portrays how she enjoys it.
