Bischoff, who is legible to represent Harambee Stars, was set to join Brighton for 1.2 Billion in the summer before the transfer hit a snag, but who is the exciting Danish-born wonderkid?
Danish-born Kenyan star Clement Mutahi Bischoff has been making waves in European football, attracting significant interest from Premier League side Brighton & Hove Albion.
While a reported Ksh 1.2 billion move to England ultimately collapsed, the 19-year-old’s talent remains undeniable, and his international allegiance could soon be a major talking point for Harambee Stars fans.
Rising Through the Ranks at Brøndby
Born on December 16, 2005, Clement Mutai Bischoff began his football journey at Amager-based clubs Sundby Boldklub and AC Academy (a shared academy between B1908 and Fremad Amager).
His potential quickly caught the attention of Danish giants Brøndby IF, who recruited him into their academy in January 2022.
After signing a two-year contract, he impressed early on and secured an extension until 2024 within just a few months.
His rapid development saw him promoted to the first team for pre-season training ahead of the 2023-24 campaign. On September 27, 2023, Bischoff made his professional debut, coming on as a substitute in a Danish Cup match against HIK, where Brøndby secured a 3-0 victory.
His steady progress earned him another contract extension until 2026, and he made his Danish Superliga debut on February 25, 2024, in a 3-0 away win against OB.
The 2024-25 season saw him break into the starting lineup, marking his first start for Brøndby with a goal in a 3-3 draw against Daniel Anyembe’s Viborg on July 21. Days later, he made his European debut in the UEFA Conference League, playing a key role in a 6-0 thrashing of Kosovan side Llapi.
Links to Brighton
He becomes the second Harambee Stars prospect to don Brighton colours after Jonah Ayunga, who came through the club’s academy.
Clement Mutai Bischoff’s impressive performances did not go unnoticed, with Premier League side Brighton & Hove Albion showing serious interest in securing his services.
Reports from The Athletic indicated that the Seagulls were prepared to offer around €8 million ($8.33 million; Ksh 1.2 billion) to bring him to England.
However, negotiations between Brighton and Brøndby ultimately fell through, leaving Bischoff’s future uncertain. Despite the failed transfer, the left-sided player remains a hot prospect, with more clubs likely to monitor his progress in the coming months.
International prospects: Kenya or Denmark?
While Bischoff has represented Denmark at the youth level, scoring on his first start for the U19s in September 2023, his international future remains open.
He is eligible to represent Kenya through his paternal lineage, and should he opt for the Harambee Stars, he would follow in the footsteps of Victor Wanyama, who enjoyed a successful Premier League career with Southampton and Tottenham Hotspur.
Kenya’s national team, Harambee Stars, has been on the lookout for players with Kenyan roots who could strengthen the squad.
Alongside Bischoff, several other players remain eligible for Kenya, including Everton’s Tyler Onyango, Leicester City’s Silko Amari Otieno Thomas, and Tottenham’s Djed Spence.
Despite the collapsed Brighton move, Bischoff remains a player to watch in the Danish Superliga and European competitions.
His versatility, technical ability, and rapid development make him a strong candidate for future top-tier transfers.
