Samburu – A prison officer has been killed in a shooting and confiscated his rifle in an armed attack by armed men in Marti, Samburu County while escorting eight prisoners from Maralal GK prison ahead .

Constable Humphrey Oroba and two colleagues from the Baragoi police station were attacked on Monday, February 10, along the Maralal-Baragoi-South Horr road.
Armed attackers, suspected of monitoring the officers' conduct, fired a shotgun, and killed Oroba instantly and forced his colleagues to flee to a nearby bush.
Police forces were sent to the area, resulting in the discovery of lost officers along with their guns. However, the eight prisoners had escaped and remained free.
Authorities confirmed that no one was arrested in connection with the attack or escaped. The officer's body was transferred to Baragoi County Hospital to await a surgical examination.

Who are the Samburu prisoners who have escaped?
Additional security officials including those of the National Police Service and Kenya Defense Force (KDF) have been encouraged to search for armed men and arrest the escapees.
The police headquarters noted that security operations in the North Rift area over the past year have dramatically reduced the robbery attacks in the area.
However, Samburu County Police Commissioner Thomas Ototo revealed that the invaders were intended to release the suspects.
Eight escapees were facing serious criminal offenses, including defilement (five suspects), unlawful possession of weapons (one suspect), murder and theft (one suspect), and harmful attacks (one suspect).
The escapes include Kennedy Lekisaat, Ewoi Lonyogorot, Namulem Losam, Lorunyei Akware, Lokwawi Adoro, Lopasho Ekiriana, Golong Arii, and Saul Lekisaat.
Authority has asked residents to provide any possible information in the search for attackers and escapes.
