Four dead at Nyahera gold mine in Homabay County – Kenya News Agency

Four people have died after suffocating inside a goldmine within Nyahera, Rachuonyo South Sub-County, Homa Bay County.

The residents had already retrieved the bodies from the about 90 feet deep mine by the time police arrived to the scene.

Rachuonyo south sub county police commander Philip Saera said one of the miners hails from Ruga in Rachuonyo south sub county and had been identified by the father but the details of the other three remained scanty.

“One comes from Kano in Kisumu County, another from Kamagambo in Migori County but no one has even the slightest clue concerning the fourth victim,” Saera said adding: “Security officers are on the ground to get full details of the four miners.”

He said the owner of the goldmine said the site was abandoned 3 years ago because of lack oxygen and didn’t know who gave the four miners permission to proceed with mining activities.
