Yanga are poised to take on JKT Tanzania in the NBC Premier League after celebrating their 90th anniversary.
Tanzanian football giants Young Africans SC, popularly known as Yanga, marked their 90th anniversary with a special celebration as they prepare to face JKT Tanzania in the NBC Premier League on Monday.
The club, renowned for its rich history and passionate fan base, chose to commemorate the milestone in a meaningful way by fulfilling the wishes of a special group of supporters.
For a long time, a section of Yanga fans, most of them with impaired vision, had expressed their deep desire to meet the players who bring them so much joy and inspiration.
In response to this heartfelt request, Yanga made their dreams come true on their 90th anniversary.
The tactician joined the Tanzanian giants in November 2024 but has now quit after receiving an irresistible offer from Algeria.
“Kwanza nimpongeze sana rais wa Yanga. Alikuja tukamwambia tunataka ndoto yetu siku moja tukutane na wachezaji wetu kwa maana wao ndio wanastawisha mioyo yetu. Kumbe bwana aliskia na akalifanyia kazi,” one of the overjoyed fans remarked in a video seen by Pulse Sports.
“First, I want to sincerely congratulate the president of Yanga. He came, and we told him that our dream was to one day meet our players because they are the ones who uplift our hearts. It turns out he listened and made it happen.”
The emotional meeting took place at Avic Town, where the visually impaired fans got the chance to interact with some of their favorite players, including Kibwana Ally Shomari, Jonas Mkude, and Dickson Job.
In a particularly heartwarming moment, one of the fans was able to identify the players solely by their voices and touch, a testament to their deep connection with the team.
Speaking in a video interview, Yanga head coach Miloud Hamdi reflected on the club’s remarkable journey.
“Many clubs, when they open the door and begin to work, disappear within 20 years. So, it is wonderful to see this club still going strong in top flight for 90 years,” he said.
“I am very happy to be here to witness the 90 years of the club,” he added.
Yanga returns to action on Monday when they face JKT Tanzania at Gen. Isamuhyo Stadium.
