The world 10km record holder shares a cryptic message as she prepares for her season opener after skipping the national cross-country championships.

World 10km record holder Agnes Jebet Ngetich has shared a cryptic post ahead of her season opener at the Sirikwa Classic Cross-country Championships on February 22.

Fans were expecting to see her in action at the Athletics Kenya cross-country championships held at the Eldoret Sports Club on Saturday since she was the defending champion but she was a no-show.

According to Nation Sport, Ngetich opted to begin her season a bit later this month with the race in Sirikwa where she finished second behind the now-banned Emmaculate Anyango.

Following her absence, Brillian Chepkorir of Kenya Prisons coming from her maternity break claimed the win in the race, shaking off the tough competition from her fellow athletes who also wanted the title.

Maureen Chepkoech of North Rift, after winning the cross-country legs in Machakos and Kapsokwony was forced to finish second in the race as Stacy Ndiwa of the National Police Service rounded up the podium.

Following the conclusion of the event, Agnes Ngetich shared a post on her Instagram stories saying: “Everything is hard before it gets easy.”

She enjoyed herself last season, starting with a win in the 10km at the 10K Valencia Ibercaja where she clocked a world record time of 28:46.

Agnes Ngetich then went ahead to claim top honours in the national cross-country championships, making the Kenyan team to the World Cross Country Championships in Belgrade, Serbia.

She finished fourth in the global championship and fully shifted her focus on the roads, making a huge career milestone with a half marathon debut in Valencia where she won the race decisively.

Agnes Ngetich rounded up her season with a win in the 5km race at the Kumamoto Kosa 10-mile Road Race in Japan.

The Kenyan distance sensation now hopes to enjoy a great 2025 season, looking to represent the country at the World Championships in Tokyo, Japan but before then, she will be racing in a few road races for build up.
