World 10,000m silver medallist Daniel Ebenyo, fresh off his cross-country win, has set ambitious targets ahead of his second full marathon.
World 10,000m silver medallist Daniel Ebenyo has revealed his next destination after his triumph at the Athletics Kenya cross country Championships at the Eldoret Sports Club on Saturday.
Daniel Ebenyo destroyed a strong field to claim the win in the senior men’s race and has high hopes of making the podium as he looks to compete in his second full marathon.
Ebenyo made his full marathon debut at the 2024 Chicago Marathon, finishing an impressive fifth after a long and turbulent season. He has already started preparing for his second marathon in Hong Kong scheduled for March 16.
Daniel Ebenyo admitted that the field at the cross country was tough and it gave him a chance to know what to expect when he toes the line at the Seoul Marathon.
He has already kickstarted his season strongly, having won the Prisons cross country championships at the Ngong Race Course before heading to the national event.
“I thank God for today, the competition has not been easy because every region had their best person in the field,” Daniel Ebenyo said to reporters after the race.
“This win places me better ahead of my marathon next month where I’ll be competing in the Seoul Marathon. I hope to finish in the podium bracket.”
Last season, Daniel Ebenyo did not have the best of seasons since he missed out on Team Kenya to the Paris Olympic Games.
Ebenyo was in action at the trials that were held at the Prefontaine Classic and looked very promising but a fall during the race denied him the chance to represent Kenya in the 10,000m at the Olympics.
Athletics Kenya was strictly tied to selecting three runners in each category and they selected the podium finishers of the trials, hence Ebenyo not making the cut.
After the disappointment, he went on to claim third place in a 10km race in Boston before finishing second at the Atlanta Journal-Constitution Peachtree Road Race.
Ebenyo made his full marathon debut in Chicago and finished fifth in a personal best time of 2:06:04. He rounded up his season at the Tata Steel Kolkata World 25K where he finished second, failing to defend his title.
