Tusker forward sets target after failed move to Algerian club

Ryan Ogam’s rumored move to Algerian club USAM Alger has failed to materialise and the forward now has eyes on lofty ambitions with Tusker.

Red-hot Tusker forward Ryan Ogam has redirected his focus to securing both the golden boot and the FKF Premier League title after his much-anticipated move to Algerian club USAM Alger fell through.

Ogam, who has been in exceptional form this season with 15 goals, currently leads the league’s scoring charts.

His impressive performances had drawn strong interest from several clubs, with USAM Alger among the most determined suitors.

The FKF Premier League’s leading scorer has attracted interest from the Algerian club but he is likely to stay in Kenya over a number of reasons.

However, despite the Algerian club’s willingness to trigger his release clause—reportedly close to Ksh4 million—the transfer did not materialize.

Tusker FC, coached by Charles Okere, initially seemed open to letting their star striker leave midseason.

However, with the Brewers locked in a fierce title race against league leaders Kenya Police and defending champions Gor Mahia, the club reconsidered and opted to retain their talismanic forward for the remainder of the season.

The Tusker coach has expressed his desire to keep the striker amid interest from Algeria but wants his team to fully focus on fighting for the FKF Premier League title.

According to Nation, Ogam confirmed the transfer interest but reiterated his commitment to Tusker’s campaign.

“It’s true there was interest, but for me, my focus has always been on the team and performing well. Anything concerning transfer deals is up to my representatives and my parents. My focus is on football,” he stated via Nation.

Determined to maintain his blistering form, Ogam has set an ambitious target of 25 to 30 goals this season.

Gor Mahia edge out Mathare United to hand Sinisa Mihic winning start

Gor Mahia overcame Mathare United in Sinisa Mihic’s first match in charge at the Dandora Stadium.

Achieving this feat would put him in contention to break the FKF Premier League single-season goal record, currently held by former Kenya Police striker Elvis Rupia, who netted 27 goals during the 2022/23 season.

Before Rupia’s record-breaking campaign, the highest tally was 26 goals, achieved by former Gor Mahia striker Maurice Ochieng.

For Ogam, surpassing this milestone would not only cement his place in FKF Premier League history but also boost Tusker’s title hopes.

Gor Mahia has released several players in a massive overhaul of the squad.

The Brewers currently sit joint-top of the standings with Kenya Police on 38 points, while Gor Mahia trails in third with 34 points but has a game in hand.

The high-stakes title race took another twist on Saturday when Tusker and Kenya Police played out a goalless draw at Kenyatta Stadium in Machakos while Gor Mahia won 2-1, closing the gap on the joint leaders.

As the season progresses, Ogam’s goal-scoring exploits will be crucial in determining whether Tusker can clinch their 14th league title.

With his sights firmly set on rewriting history and leading his team to glory, Ogam remains a key figure in Tusker’s championship push.
